“Tanja Major : Handmade www.fungi-paper.de by Tanja from Germany, called ‘Mykobütten’, consists of 100% mushrooms. As a pioneering paper artist, she explores the innovative transformation of mushrooms into paper fibers and demonstrates sustainable and compostable art and paper production that can be returned to nature or the forest. Her work reflects a holistic understanding of life cycles in which creation and decay are connected. It emphasizes the role of humanity ( only ) as part of a larger ecological system. Her research focuses on natural substances and traditional and paper-making techniques. Chitin, the main component of fungal cell walls, is an important structural polymer. She integrates her mycologic knowledge and understanding of nature into her artistic work. The work with mushrooms represents a symbiotic relationship between human and nature. She has already exhibited in Korea, Dubai, Tasmania, Japan, USA, Israel, France, Germany… Tanja is also a photographer and cookbook author and has a mushroom food blog Myko-kitchen.”
